Pouch Dip Leak Tester

A pouch dip leak tester is a specialized instrument designed to assess the seal integrity (leakage) of air-filled, non-porous pouches when they are exposed to external compressive forces while submerged in water.

The pouch is dipped in a stainless steel tank filled with water and held for a certain period of time before being released.

If the pouch has even minute leakages, they will be seen as a stream of air bubbles escaping the package.

This test is faster and better than the Vacuum Leak Test method.

Pouch Dip Leak Tester

Technical Specifications :

  • Analog Model with Dial Type Pressure Gauge
  • Runs on Compressed Air.
  • No Electricity Required.

Pre-Test Procedure :

  • Decide on Test Force.
    • Suppose you want to test 3 pouches together and you want a force of 10 kgs to be applied to each pouch, the combined force = 3 x 10 = 30 kgs.
    • Divide this force by 20 to give you the desired test pressure. eg. 30/20 = 1.5 kg/cm2 (~1.5 bar)
  • Set Test Pressure on Pressure Regulator (small dial gauge shows approx pressure).
  • Push the Test Lever down to bring the pressing plate down.
  • Verify that the bigger Dial Gauge on the Cylinder goes upto the set pressure of the Pressure Regulator.
    • If not, adjust Regulator to the desired real pressure.
    • Note : the small dial gauge on regulator is not calibrated and is used for coarse setting.
    • The larger Dial Gauge on the cylinder is calibrated and is the actual pressure inside the cylinder.
  • Push the Test Lever up to bring the pressing plate up.
  • Fill the tank with water upto the desired level. Do not fill upto the top because the level will rise when the pouches are pressed under water.

Test Procedure :

  • Place your sample pouches inside the tank under the pressing platen.
  • Push the Test Lever down to bring the pressing plate down.
  • Observe the pouches and if you find a constant stream of air bubbles, identify the pouch and the leak source.
  • After the desired holding period (usually 15 seconds), push the Test Lever up to bring the pressing plate up.
  • Remove the samples.
