The scuff test is a widely used method for evaluating the abrasion resistance of printed materials. It measures how well ink or coatings withstand rubbing or scuffing during handling, shipping, and storage. The test involves placing a printed sample under controlled pressure and rotary motion, typically using a Patra-type Rotary Rub Tester, which moves a weighted sample in a circular motion over the printed surface for a set number of cycles / rotations. The degree of ink wear or transfer is then assessed to determine durability.

This equipment is suitable for Semi-Flexible Printed Substrates such as Duplex Board only. It is NOT SUITABLE for Flexible Printed Substrates such as Films / Foils / Laminates / Labels, etc.

Scuff Tester / Rotary Rub Tester (PATRA Type)

Abrasion resistance is a desirable and sometimes critical property of printed materials. Abrasion damage can occur during shipment, storage, handling and end-use. The result is a significant decrease in product appearance and legibility of product information. The amount of abrasion damage to a printed surface is dependent on shipping, handling, temperature and humidity conditions, storage time and many other variables.

This equipment is meant for semi-rigid substrates like Paperboard / Duplex Board only.

Not Suitable for flexible substrates like Plastic Films / Laminates / Aluminum Foils, etc.

 

 

Principle :

In this machine, 2 samples of the same substrate are rubbed against each other in the same plane, under a constant pressure of 2 - 4 p.s.i and at a fixed speed of 60 RPM.

 

Method of rubbing :         Rotary Rub (Circular Motion)

Rubbing Weights :

    • Addon Weights : 
      1. ​714 grams.  ​Equivalent to 0.5 psi rubbing pressure.
      2. 1428 grams.  ​Equivalent to 1 psi rubbing pressure.
      3. 1428 grams.  ​Equivalent to 1 psi rubbing pressure.

Rubbing Speed :     60 RPM (Fixed)

DQ/IQ/OQ Documentation are supplied with SKUs specific to the Pharmaceutical Industry.

  • VXC2 with 2 psi rubbing pressure (fixed, base weight).
  • VXC4 with 2 to 4 psi rubbing pressure (fixed + addon weights)

      Product Lead Time

      Product Warranty

      Unless otherwise specified in the description, all products and accessories (excluding consumables and spares) manufactured / sold by us are covered under a standard 12 month warranty period. 

      The warranty is "Ex-Factory" or "Back-to-Bench", meaning the product or defective part will have to be sent back to us for repair or replacement. To and Fro Freight / Courier charges are to be borne by the buyer. The warranty only covers manufacturing defects and not misuse or any other damages.
